Frequently asked questions

Here are some of the frequently asked questions that we receive if you have any other questions please don’t hesitate to ask.

What is shockwave therapy?

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-energy sound waves to promote healing in injured tissues. It is commonly used for conditions like plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, and tennis elbow.

How does shockwave therapy work?

The sound waves stimulate blood flow, reduce inflammation, and promote the regeneration of damaged tissues. This helps to accelerate the healing process and reduce pain.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and promote healing. In sports physiotherapy, acupuncture is used to relieve pain, reduce muscle tension, and enhance the body's natural healing processes. It can be effective for treating a variety of musculoskeletal conditions.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture generally does not cause significant pain. Most people experience minimal discomfort as the thin needles are inserted. The sensation can vary from person to person; some might feel a slight pinch or tingling, while others may feel nothing at all. Once the needles are in place, there is usually no pain, and many people find the experience relaxing. Book now for your first session and see how you feel, of course if you are in any discomfort there will be no pressure to continue on and we can look at alternate physio options.

How do I know which treatment is right for me?

A thorough assessment by a qualified sports physiotherapist is generally necessary to determine the most appropriate treatment for your condition. We will consider your medical history, the nature of your injury, and your specific needs and goals and make our recommendations based on your personal circumstances and preferences.
